Raphs Eye Cyst

It all started when he was about 2 and a small bump would expand and contracts. I'll fill this in later.

2013/10/10 Raph had his orbitoscopy. I'll fill in this later but it was described as a great success with a soft ball about half the side of the last bend of my little finger being extracted. We are provided with two antibiotics. 4 drops / day into the eye and 1 paraffin based on for just before bed into the lower lid.

2013/10/11 in the morning we took of the bandage which he was desperate to take off Looked like a boxer the day after but very impressed by how small the wound looked. We would get a little bleed on it when we failed to keep him from touching it. Lots of TV that Friday, but hard as he was full of beans. Shot on Wive's phone and will post.

2013/10/12 no image. Saw freinds. I think this was the day we started leaving a plaster bridging his inner orbit from brow to cheek to reduce the sheer abound of contact he makes with is and causing another little bleed. He is given to rubbing his eyes when he is sad and burying his face into things. Also unfortunately was full of beans.

The plaster at night technique seems to be helping but we gave him a bath and he decided to put his face in it. Dried it with cotton buds.

Had a good night of it. Very happy. No bleeding for a day now we are using the plaster technique. Most plasters do not last. We found the the cloth water resistant types and the only ones that stick well enough but also pull the skin on removal.

2013/10/15-16 seem to have reached a plateau as every other day he does something to open the wound again a little bit again. Did some research and ordered an eye patch, ski-ing goggles and safety glasses.

Non-cloth super sticky plaster fell off in the night and he has obviously rubbed it.  Getting a bit concerned now as we clearly need some method of stopping his from accessing his eye long enough for it to heal. The would also needs to be able to breathe so that it can heal.

Eye wear arrives safety glasses win hands down. Stay on no matter what he is doing, do not tough the wound. Tolerates them well. Still use plaster technique at night. Took into nursery at midday.

Same day evening.

2013/10/18-20
Have glasses going well and have been using Savlon to try and keep the scab subtle as well and provide antibacterial assistance as I have been unsure if the occasional yellow bits are worth worrying about.

Have had good progress with Savlon / Glasses combo.

By the evening it looks like this.

Raph is supposed to have his check up at Great Ormand Street Hospital tomorrow. I called to Dr Abou-Rayyah's Opthaimology clinic secretary to express that now that we had started to wear the glasses the wound was only just starting to heal and that, I had maintained a photo diary and that prior to the operation I had been advised that we could do follow on work at Frimley or with our GP. The secretary spoke to DR Abou-Rayyah  who said he would rather we come in and did not look at this site (2 people 6 hours) to which we declined as it seemed clear that 5 minutes looking at this site and a telephone call would be sufficient. My understanding logged consultations have to be face to face (so for the sake of the planet lets fix that)

2013/11/02 We are letting him get it wet now.
 2013/11/06

2013/11/06 Progress is very short now. I have been feeling for a lump below the skin and suspect there is a lump about the volume of a 5mm ball but not that shape continuing from where these is a similar lump under the skin in a normal eye. To the touch it is hard as bone and suspect it is subdermas scar tissue. I would however like to see the biopsy of what was removed. We can then decide if that lump should be investigated or monitored as I am doing.

 Left eye to compare

2014/02/28: Raphs scar has changes very little over the last 3 months. There is not a lot of point taking a picture as it is very dependent on his temperature and mood. I should perhaps take a series in the morning and of extremes. Them, what I assume is under scarring is behaving as it should. That is to say that after 3 months it is clear to me that the small bump we can feel but not see is even smaller by perhaps 50% smaller than 3month previous.
